Welcome to the home of FSX Racing HID Retro center
So you want to do a HID projector retrofit. Well first off let me thank you. Not for coming to FSX but for not following the cheap crowd and picking up and Ebay HID kit. If your not aware why let me give you a quick background. Those Ebay kits are made in Japan with lower quality parts then the OEM HID parts usually made in Germany. Kits may clam to be DOT approved but only in headlights approved for HID use and in the standard white color. The standard white color is also known as 4300K which will give you the most visible light. OEM bulbs usually don’t go above 5000k due to the fact you start to loose light. When you get above the 8000k range in those ebay kits a good quality halogen bulb actually is capable of putting out more visible light. If you would like more information in this matter contact me and I will be more then happy to answer questions and give you more information.
Ok well now you’re not going to go with 8000k blue lights in a standard halogen housing let talk about projectors. There is a hugely wide range of projectors out there with a wide range of prices. Top of the line include the LS430 projectors, s2000, and Evolution 8. these projectors can fetch up to $400 a pair. A bit pricey for people that isn’t extremely passionate about HIDs but still a great option. The reason for these being expensive is they give you the most light output, wide coverage of light, and the sharpest cutoff. The mid range and most popular is the TSX projector. And then the low range is the Valeo H7 halogen projector but they are capable of running HID because they have the needed cutoff shield. There are many more projectors out there but these are some of the post popular single xenon projectors.
So here are the most popular options for Projector Retrofits.
- cheapest level which is getting projectors for the looks, the Valeo H7 Audi A4 low beam projectors which run for $50-75 a pair. Then pick up h7 halogen bulbs either standard bulbs or grab some Silvana silver stars. Silver stars in Valeo projectors can look like HIDs from the front due to the nice white light the put out. However, they don’t quite put out the same amount of light. HIDs will get you a bit more light. This setup ill run around $250 for the projectors and the install.
- Next would be Valeo H7 projectors, then you can pick up a Japanese after market kit for H7 bulbs around 80-150. This is fine but they aren’t as high quality parts as the OEM bulbs and ballasts. But this allows customer to have HIDs the cheapest way possible and still not blind on coming traffic making it one of the few times anyone can get away with ebay kits. If good prices are found this setup can be put together for $150. However FSX warns that you loose reliability with after market kits. In the end this setup will usually run you around $325 total with install
- next would still be running the Valeo projectors and then get the H7 to D2S rings for $10 and then run OEM used ballasts and bulbs. OEM stuff runs between $150-250 for a set. depending on what is found. So when all said in done look to spend over $350
- the next setup would be upgrading to TSX projectors which are some of the most popular on the market which run for 150-170. since these are a d2s only projector you have to get OEM bulbs and ballasts. so once again used run about 150-250. so this setup look to spend over $450 in total.
- top of the line with tsx projectors are with NEW remake hella Gen3 ballasts and brand new bulbs. this runs the usual 150-170 for projectors and the new bulbs and ballasts run $400 so this will be over $700 in total.
These are the most common setups FSX does. There are other projectors out there. However, these are what are recommend for a low budget or medium budget installs by FSX.
Shipping. Shipping costs will all be paid for by the customer.
FSX will find the parts for you at the prices available from the FSX connections or the customer can find the items on their own. The Buyer then pays for the items and can choose to have them shipped directly to FSX or the customer can get then and then ship them to FSX.
Labor charge runs $170. It can fluctuate if your
headlight has some unforeseen issues which has not
yet occurred. But if this does occur FSX wont blind
side you with a fee, $10-25 more would probably
be all. Then with HIDs the customer will need a
relay wire harness so power is not over drawn form
the stock harness which can cause a fire. The cost
of a harness is $30. So in the end it comes to 200
for FSX’s labor, materials and relay harness.
another fun option a few have taken is adding halos
AKA angel Eyes. With angel eyes an install fee of
$10 will be charged. The install will run the wires
out the back of the headlight so they can be wired
on their own switch which the user will have to
do when the headlights are installed on the car.
thanks for your interest in getting HIDs and getting them done the right, legal, way
